US bans import of Burmese pythons
AFP American Edition
The United States announced Tuesday it is banning the import of Burmese pythons and three other species of giant constrictor snakes due to the danger they pose to local wildlife.
The formal ban on importing or transporting across state lines the Burmese python, the yellow anaconda and the northern and southern African pythons will take effect in about two months, said the Fish and Wildlife Service.
According to the decision, the four big snakes are considered “injurious wildlife” and the ban aims to halt their spread in the wild. People who own them as pets would not likely be affected by the new restrictions……. Read more
Caught On Video: Helicopter Night Vision View Of Costa Concordia Survivors Getting Into Lifeboats
Night vision footage captured by the Italian coast guard helicopter on Friday shows hundreds of passengers being evacuated from the Costa Concordia as it lies stricken on its side.
As hopes fade for 29 passengers still missing from the luxury cruise liner Costa Concordia, which ran aground off Tuscany, divers use explosives to blow holes in the hull of the ship to allow better access to the submerged cabins. The holes will also act as escape routes for the divers.

Reuters US Online Report Domestic News
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. home merchandise retailer Bed Bath and Beyond Inc is recalling tissue holders because one of its materials emits low levels of radiation, the company said on Friday.
According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRD), there is no health threat from the item, the Dual Ridge Metal boutique tissue holder, the company said in a statement.
The holder has been sold since July in about 200 of Bed Bath and Beyond’s 1,000 stores in the United States and Canada and through its website, it said.
The holder “contains a material which emits low levels of radiation,” the company said.
“The NRC has also informed us that the material is believed to be in the tissue holder itself and cannot be inhaled, nor can it contaminate other objects (such as tissues).”
The item has been pulled from the stores and from the website.
The statement did not identify the radioactive material.
